Our Hens
1.2.04 - Well, after moving into Ledbury from a farm
nearly 10 years ago - we have always thought about
some hens in our large garden.
My wife Melanie wanted to keep her own Point of Lay
Light Sussex, a useful utility
breed - and NFPLedbury had to produce a poultry
house to suit a very discerning client.

The house and pullets are now in place, and we will
be bringing you news and updates on their and our
progress. As you can see, they are young birds, just
starting to get their red combs and come into lay.
We have some plans for these chickens -possibly they
will become LIVE on the internet - but we will let
you know.

At the moment, they are getting used to their new
home and surroundings - they have been dust bathing
and eating worms together with greenstuffs.
27.2.04. Chickens in the Snow!. (pics
here) The hens are settling in, and enjoying the
attention. They are not perching yet, possibly because
they have been floor reared. The intention is to place
some lower perches for them to get used to. No eggs
yet although a number of dates for the first egg have
been offered! The hens have been named! The hens are
getting used to the Treadle Feeder and the 2 Gallon
Drinker has been hung on a chain. Equipment

4.4.04 - We are now up to 6 hens, and they have names: Henrietta, Thatch, Mrs Miggins, Moet, Tomasin Richie Pock and Attilla. Production has soared and we have now reached 4 eggs! - We have changed the drinker for a 3 gallon galvanised as they were drinking lots of water. The area in front of the hens has just been planted up.
We hope you come back and visit this page to see
how they are doing.
