Basework instructions for Garden Sheds and Workshops

Drawing of Paving Slab Base required for a 10ft x 8ft Building.

We usually recommend a Paving Slab base for our buildings. This is less expensive than laying concrete with the advantage of being easily removed should the need arise. You do not have to use top quality paving slabs. This base specification is suggested for most general uses, but if you have very uneven or soft ground or wish to put heavy weights in the building we suggest that you contact our office for advice.

Method.

Level the area , removing turf etc and compact if necessary as the slabs will settle if on newly dug soil. It is easier to level the slabs if they are bedded on ordinary builders sand. The illustration shows a layout for a 10ftx 8ft base. To economise on slabs, these are laid in rows to support the floor bearers which run the length of the shed. Lay the slabs level and square. Cut back any soil higher than the slabs to an angle of 45 degrees to prevent soil falling against the building.
